Browsing the web looking for something totally different subject at the beginning, I ended up on the blog of (Jaanus, http://www.jaanuskase.com/en/2007/05/) and found the following video of a conference of David Weinberger called everything is miscellaneous. 

It is a very interesting and entertaining introduction on folksonomy.  If you think that the Wikipedia definitions are a bit dry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxonomy), have a look at this video; Mr Weinberger is a great speaker. It might help to understand the concepts used within TagandFacet, when the definitions of Wikipedia might be a bit dry.

I am still, amazed, everyday how internet, blogs can reduce the distance. Not even more than five years ago I wouldn't have been able to view this presentation or even less to share it.

Have you ever been in front of hierarchy of directories, trying to find back the file containing the information you are looking. It happens to me all the time. On my laptop because after holidays or even a long week-end I tend to find a smarter way of organizing files or emails. When you are at the office sharing documents, with co-workers, not everybody does tend to organize their documents in the same way on the server; or even worse a very generic directory structure is imposed by another department that you don't even know where to store your documents any more. It is for all these reasons that we have developed TagAndFacet. It is a windows application running on both Windows XP and Vista. Within the file explorer of windows, you can add tags (as many as you want) summarizing in your own words all the aspects of the document that can be searched afterwards. Auto-completion is available to help you keeping tags coherent across time between documents. Tags can be expressed in you own languages as they are stored in UTF-8 format.

Because the problematic is similar in Outlook, we have build an outlook plug-in, in the very same way, you can add tags to your emails very easily.

Last note, TagAndFacet is not reading your file, The tool is just associating your tags, to the file name.

An example of usage of the tool is when you make proposal to a customer; this proposal will include some financial confidential data, plans, technical solution. You will probably want to tag it with the name of the customer, one or more technical reference reflecting the solution proposed, when you have sent the proposal, the date you will do a follow up.

Through the integrated search you will be able afterwards to find back the documents, emails exchanged with this customer. Or when you have to make another proposal to another customer but with a similar solution, you will be able to search through the technical reference and find all proposal involved this type of solution.
